Different Gutter Types and will it work with the Lock Jaw Ladder Grip
When working on roofs and using ladders, safety is a concern. It only takes a few seconds for a serious accident to occur.
There are many gutter types around the world and Lock Jaw Ladder Grip works really well on many types of gutters. The Lock Jaw Ladder Grip is designed to prevent ladder slippage and provide stability across various gutter types which assists with safety during the job.
It is also part of the legislative requirements in many countries to secure the ladder at the top and the bottom therefore the product assists with meeting this requirement.
1. K-Style Gutters (Common in the U.S. and Canada)
K-style gutters are common in North America and have a flat back, making ladder stability tricky. The Lock Jaw Ladder Grip securely attaches to the gutter’s edge, preventing lateral movement and providing a stable foundation for ladder work, even in windy conditions.
2. Half-Round Gutters (Europe and Historic Buildings Worldwide)
Half-round gutters are often used in historic buildings due to their curved design. Their shape can make ladder positioning difficult, but the Lock Jaw Ladder Grip grips the curve securely, preventing the ladder from slipping off and ensuring stability when working. You should check if there is a lip on the gutter as the Lock Jaw Ladder Grip needs to be secured under the lip.
3. Box Gutters (Australia, New Zealand, and Commercial Buildings)
Box gutters, with their flat, rectangular shape, are commonly found in low-slope roofs or commercial properties. It depends on the type of gutter, whether the product can be used. Send an email with a photo to sales@lockjawladdergrip.com.au if you are unsure and we can assist.
4. Fascia Gutters (Australia)
Fascia gutters, mounted directly onto the fascia board, often require precise ladder placement. Fascia gutter is a modern style gutter widely used in domestic and commercial applications. Extensively used for carports, awnings, garages and sheds. The Lock Jaw Ladder Grip ensures the ladder remains steady, even on narrow surfaces, making it easier and safer to work on fascia gutters.
5. PVC Gutters (Global)
PVC gutters are lightweight and cost-effective but can be damaged if the ladder shifts or applies too much pressure. If the gutter is flimsy pvc, we don’t recommend using the Lock Jaw Ladder Grip. A rule of thumb is, if you are not prepared to lean your ladder against the gutter, then the product shouldn’t be used. Also if there is no lip on the gutter, we don’t recommend using the product.
6. Copper Gutters (Europe and High-End Properties)
Copper gutters, commonly found in high-end properties, require careful handling to avoid damage. The Lock Jaw Ladder Grip ensures ladder stability while preventing scratches or dents, making it especially useful for preserving these premium systems.
7. Concealed Gutters (also known as internal fixed gutters and fixed behind the fascia)
Lock Jaw Ladder Grip cannot be used on concealed gutters as it needs to be clamped around the lip of a gutter.
